COPROSMA acerosa Hawera
Tough, flat-growing native ground cover, forming a tight mat a small, olive-green leaves. Tolerant of drought, ocean spray, wind, sun or shade and most soils, including sandy, but avoid wet spots. Spreads prostrate, almost like a lawn, gradually mounding with age. Works well spilling over a wall.
Evergreen - 30cm high x 2m wide

COPROSMA acerosa Red Rock
An outstanding, rugged ground cover or wall spiller, forming a tight, tangled mat of dark reddish brown foliage with springy intertwining branchlets; especially useful for steep or difficult areas. Vigorous and hardy, tolerating drought, ocean spray, wind, full sun or shade. Happy in sandy soils and most others, except wet.

COPROSMA Flat Freddy - Ground Cover Coprosma
A new low growing native ground cover with very flat habit and almost black foliage which provides a good colour contrast in mixed plantings. Great on banks, in borders and spilling over retaining walls. Tough and hardy, taking drought, frost, wind, sun or shade and most soils, including sandy, but avoid wet sites.

A versatile, tough shrub with small, rounded, glossy, rich-green leaves. Compact and bushy, it is ideal for shaping and makes a beautiful ornamental hedge. Or use as a superior green filler. Prolific orange fruit attracts birds. Tolerates sun or shade, poor soils (including damp), strong winds, ocean spray and cold, and trims readily.

COPROSMA Roy's Red
A bushy, compact coprosma with tiny bronze red leaves, which become more intensely coloured during autumn and winter. Very effective against a boulder or rock wall, as a small, neat clipped hedge or for mass planting. Hardy, tolerant of poor, dry, windy conditions, sun or part shade. Needs well drained soils.

COPROSMA X KIRKII
One of the best native groundcovers. Closely branched, it rapidly forms a dense mat of shiny deep olive-green leaves. Takes drought, ocean spray, wind, sun or shade and most soils, including sandy, but avoid wet sites. Useful in any situation where a hardy, rapidly growing, easily maintained groundcover or wall spiller is called for. Excellent cover for steep or difficult areas. Can be trimmed hard.

CORDYLINE australis - Ti Kouka, Cabbage Tree
This palm-like New Zealand icon is very easy to grow in conditions ranging from windy, dry and sandy to swampy; sun or shade. Great for landscaping, especially in mixed plantings; also used extensively in native revegetation and wetland plantings. Spray for caterpillars at first sign of infestation (holes in leaves), and avoid piling bark mulch up against the trunk, as it harbours slaters, which chew the trunks.

CORDYLINE australis Purpurea - Purple Cabbage Tree
A seedling grown purple version of the green cabbage tree, with slightly slower growth rate and less ultimate height. Removing growing tip helps multiple heads develop. Takes coastal winds, dry to damp soils, full sun or part shade. Spray for caterpillars at first sign of infestation (holes in leaves). Sweet flowers attract birds.

COROKIA X VIRGATA Emerald 'n' Jade
A very hardy shrub for almost any well drained situation, including coastal, dry and windy, full sun or part shade. Forms an upright, multi branched shrub with fine green leaves and greyish stems. Masses of tiny yellow summer flowers are followed by small yellow autumn berries, loved by birds. Excellent as a low clipped hedge or small screen, and quite happy under big trees.

COROKIA X VIRGATA Frosted Chocolate
A very hardy shrub for full sun or partial shade. Will grow under big trees and on the coast. Tiny yellow flowers are followed by red berries. Chocolate-brown leaves intensify in colour in cooler months. Excellent as a low clipped hedge or small screen.

CORTADERIA fulvida - Toetoe
Attractive native grass forming large tussocks with tall, feathery flower plumes in spring/early summer. (Not to be confused with autumn-flowering introduced pampas). Golden flower heads may be pinkish when they first emerge. Useful for erosion control, as low shelter, or as nurse plant in revegetation projects. Grows easily on most sites, from dry sandy soils on the coast to moist swamp margins.

CORYNOCARPUS laevigatus - Karaka, NZ Laurel
A handsome big-growing tree with leathery glossy leaves and large orange fruit enjoyed by kereru (wood pigeons). The raw seed is poisonous to humans. Makes a good shade tree or screen and is often used in native revegetation plantings, especially on the coast. Possum hardy and very wind hardy, but frost tender when young, and needs free-draining soils.
