PHORMIUM Rainbow Red
A graceful flax with striking pink to red foliage. Use at the forefront of borders or in grouped plantings for effective splashes of colour. To prevent reversion and maintain good colour, feed with nitrogen rich fertiliser. For best colour, plant in full sun. Tough, tolerating extremes of heat and cold, salt air, damp (not boggy) conditions and drought.
Evergreen - 60cm x 60cm

PHORMIUM Black Rage
A distinctive smoky grey flax. Weeping foliage creates a stylish flax that holds colour well as it matures. Spectacular mass planted on banks, borders or around a pond. To prevent reversion and maintain good colour, feed with nitrogen rich fertiliser. For best colour, plant in full sun. Tough, tolerating extremes of heat and cold, salt air, damp (not boggy conditions) and drought.
Evergreen - 80cm x 80cm

PHORMIUM cookianum - Mountain Flax
A smaller growing flax than the more common Phormium tenax, but just as hardy, growing in rocky or sandy conditions and any soils, dry to damp (but not swampy). Tolerant of cold, heat and coastal winds. Foliage varies from erect leaves to more lax drooping leaves. Tall spikes of orange and yellow flowers attract tuis, bellbirds and silvereye in late spring, summer.
Evergreen - 1m x 1m

PHORMIUM Dazzler
This compact flax has dark purple arching leaves, heavily striped with red to pinkish red. To prevent reversion and maintain good colour, feed with nitrogen rich fertiliser. Will survive in shade but maintains best colour in full sun. Tough, tolerating extremes of heat and cold, salt air, damp (not boggy) conditions and drought.
Evergreen - 75cm x 75cm

PHORMIUM Jester
A showy flax cultivar with bright green foliage striped with a wide, hot pink central band. Beautiful mass planted. To prevent reversion and to maintain good colour, feed with fertiliser rich in nitrogen. Okay in shade, but maintains better colour in full sun. Tough, tolerating extremes of heat and cold, salt air, damp (not boggy) conditions and drought.
Evergreen - 1m x 1m

PHORMIUM tenax - Swamp Flax, NZ Green Flax
Very hardy, quick-growing broad-leafed plant. Excellent shelter for very windy places, coastal hardy. Tolerates both wet and dry soils. Great in mixed plantings, for erosion control, around ponds, as nurse shelter in native revegetation blocks and for planting in waste-water dispersal areas. Excellent for wetland plantings. Flowers on tall spikes attract birds.
Evergreen - 2-3m x 2m

PHORMIUM tenax Bronze Baby
Strong-growing flax cultivar which makes a beautiful contrast to green or silver plants in borders or around a pond. Mass plant for best effect. To prevent reversion and to maintain good colour, feed with fertiliser rich in nitrogen. Okay in shade, but maintains better colour in full sun. Tough, tolerating heat and cold, salt air, damp (not boggy) conditions and drought.
Evergreen - 75cm x 75cm

PHORMIUM tenax purpureum - Purple Swamp Flax
A seedling-grown version of the green swamp flax, this is a vigorous grower with smooth bronzy leaves. Because it is grown from seed, there are many interesting colour variations, from bronze to deep purple. Purple flax is smaller than the green swamp flax, but just as hardy and fast. Will take dry to wet conditions. Large flower spikes are favourites with tuis.
Evergreen - 1.5m x 1m

PHORMIUM tenax Yellow Wave
Strong-growing flax cultivar with gracefully drooping foliage - spectacular mass planted on banks, borders or around a pond. To prevent reversion and to maintain good colour, feed with nitrogen-rich fertiliser. Okay in shade, but maintains better colour in full sun. Tough, tolerating extremes of heat and cold, salt air, damp (not boggy) conditions and drought.
Evergreen - 1m x 1m
