AESCULUS hippocastanum - Common Horse Chestnut
A magnificent flowering tree from Southeast Europe with rounded crown, heavy twisted trunk and peeling bark. Has big leaves and large, upright conical candles of cream flowers late spring, followed by spiky conkers (not edible). Beautiful avenue or shade tree; prefers fertile soil and protection from constant winds.
Deciduous - 6m x 5m @ 10 years

AGAPANTHUS Streamline
A beautiful agapanthus with dwarf foliage and months of sky blue blooms over summer. An excellent, easy grower perfect for trouble free mass plantings that will add maximum colour to the garden for minimum effort. Grows in most conditions, sun to semi shade and is hardy to frost.

ALBIZZIA julibrissin rosea - Silk Tree
Drought-hardy spreading shade tree with fern-like foliage and silky, fluffy pink flowers across the crown in summer. Regarded as one of the showiest of trees, especially when viewed from above. Train to desired height by trimming side branches when young. Takes normal to dry soils, including light, sandy soils.

ARTHROPODIUM cirratum Matapouri Bay - Reinga Lily
Forms a small, flax-like clump with broad, blue-hued leaves, topped in summer by masses of starry white flowers on long stems. Ideal mass planted on shady banks, in borders, rock gardens and under trees. Prefers shade, but will grow in full sun. Frost tender, tolerant of coastal conditions. NB: Leaves often eaten by slugs or snails when young.

CALLISTEMON John Mashlan - Pink Bottlebrush
Tough but pretty shrub, with masses of candyfloss pink flowers in spring and autumn. Birds love the flowers, especially tui. A very fast screen or filler; can be used as a formal clipped hedge (50cm to 70cm spacing), or as a low shelter (1m spacing). Tolerant of drought, wind and damp soils. Flowers better in full sun, and a light trim after flowering helps keep plant bushy.

Tough, wind-hardy, coastal-hardy, fast-growing shrub for moist to dry conditions. Excellent for banks, borders and screens. Prolific bright-red flowers spring and early summer attract birds (especially tuis) and give a colourful display. Clipping occasionally will help maintain bushiness, while more frequent clipping will produce a good hedge. Flowers best in full sun.

DIANELLA intermedia (syn. Dianella nigra) - Turutu, NZ Blueberry
Flax-like and small, this NZ native features star shaped flowers followed in autumn by indigo berries which birds enjoy. Perfect for adding colour and interest to shady spots in the garden or for shaded areas in revegetation plantings. Hardy to frost, it will thrive in filtered shade in average to well drained soils.

DIETES grandiflora - Large Wild Iris
This evergreen perennial has large white flowers through spring and summer and long, sword like leaves. Striking beside ponds, in mass plantings or mixed borders. Attractive, fast-growing shrub with arching branches and dense, deep-green foliage to ground level, with reddish new growth. Masses of pink flowers appear late spring to autumn. EUCALYPTUS ficifolia - Red Flowering Gum
Handsome, very fast-growing ornamental, usually a single trunked, round-headed tree, with spectacular flowers in summer. Although predominantly reds, colour on these seedling grown ficifolias can range through cream, orange, pink and deep red. Drought tolerant when established and coastal tolerant. Protect from frost when young. Flowers from early age.

EUCALYPTUS leucoxylon Rosea - Winter Flowering Gum
A quick-growing ornamental gum - great in a big garden with space, or out in the paddock as a shade tree. Tui and native bellbirds enjoy the honey-bearing flowers late autumn/winter. Flower colour on these seedling grown trees varies from pink to deep red. Wind tolerant and hardy to heavy frosts; avoid wet sites.
